Monthly Shoots/ Meetings

Our monthly shoots take place on the 3rd Saturday of the month, except May, when it is the 2nd Saturday. Registration for shooting starts at 9:00 a.m. At 9:30 a.m. we have a meeting to discuss club business. Shooting starts at 10:00 a.m. or shortly after the meeting has come to an official close, and once all targets are posted. Throughout the day we will have raffle tickets for sale. The raffle prize is usually a "period correct" item to add to your hoard. Proceeds go back into the club treasury.

We have individual aggregate (scored) shoots for rifle, trade gun, pistol, shotgun, trade shotgun and tomahawk and knife. Aggregate scores are recorded and ribbons are awarded at the next club shoot for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Monthly scores are accumulated into a yearly score. At the end of the club year in September, certificates are awarded for top yearly shooters in each division. We have separate divisions for Women, Men, Young Adult (15-17), Junior (11-14), and PeeWee (6-10). After the aggregate shoot, we have additional shooting of either paper, trail walk, or novelty, which can be either paper or trail. Period clothing is not required but will give you an extra point for the additional shooting event.

After the novelty shoot or trail walk, we usually break for lunch. From October to May we have a chili pot for lunch. Club members bring a can of chili to add to the pot. We always have enough for everyone attending. Donations of cheese, onions, crackers, corn chips and other goodies are happily accepted but not required. Coffee and hot water are also available during these months. We also have the raffle drawing at this time. After lunch we all gather to throw hawk & knife. Since everyone is all gathered around, everyone watches and there is some friendly heckling. Once we finish with hawk & knife, most people go their way, except the die-hards with trade guns and shotguns. This is the time we pull out the bird launcher and let them fly. This is for the serious shooters. Yes, there is still some heckling going on, but shot gunners do get pretty serious.

The day generally ends between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon. It all depends on if we have a trail walk that day, and if you stay for the shotgun match.

Meetings consist of a reading of the prior months minutes, followed by old and new business, upcoming events, officers reports, new members, etc. Feel free to come on out and check things out. The more the merrier!

Our meeting site is located at 12255 Budlong Ln. SE, Mill City, OR 97360.
